from my sketchbook

I have been neglecting my sketchblog for quite sometime. Even though I have n;t really sketched anything substantial for many days, I feel the need to fill the void. Here are two quick sketches that I drew in my sketchbook on my last visit to James Park, London. The kids were busy playing in the sandpit and looked so adorable.Especially the young girl with a doll in her hand -- she was an angel!

On Mothers' Day

Here is my tribute to Mothers' day. A sketch of my mom .She has been the guiding force since my early days.We lived in a small town where art education was not available, but she always pushed me to do better, encouraging me to share my art with the world ( I being the shy one)...
Each woman who is a mother knows what does it take to be one. It means having her whole life altered so that she can provide a better life and a happy childhood to her offspring!
When you are a mother, you are never really alone in your thoughts. A mother always has to think twice, once for herself and once for her child.
- Sophia Loren

Happy Mothers' Day every mom of the world.

Fun on the Beach

I finished this sketch yesterday but not as I would have liked to! Perhaps I sprayed the fixative too close last time and when I picked it up again, i saw small blobs of it all over him! Well some things aren't destined to reach a fair end.Anyway I am posting it as it is....

work in progress 2

This is the stage I am working on at the moment. I have just started the old man's shading. Kid has got his share, but still needs a bit of finishing. Also added tiny waves in the background..
Have a Nice Day!

Fun on the beach

This is Picasso himself...

A sketch in Progress-1

Here I have completed the basic outline work, and started shading from the upper left corner. When drawing portraits, I go from one end to the other, from top to bottom shading the parts as close to finished as possible. This is to avoid any smudging by the hand.

This is the first layer of shading on the child's face.I use circuler strokes instead of usual anguler or cross hatch. It gives a smoother effect. After shading I use a fine cloth wrapped around my finger to smooth out the tones. Then , another round of shading if a darken tone is required.
Thats all for today...Have a nice day!
